Wet rooms are elite compared to traditional bathrooms due to their accessible nature and modern feel. However, keeping your wet room sparkling clean is extremely important; not just for hygiene but also for safety reasons.
In this blog, we will take you through our step-by-step guide that highlights simple, effective and safe methods to keep your wet room clean, while offering helpful tips and tricks for ideal wet room maintenance.
What is a Wet Room?
Our solution for individuals who require accessibility assistance without sacrificing style and comfort. Wet rooms are bathrooms with an open plan that are fully waterproof. There is level access to the shower area, not only making it visually appealing but also removing trip hazards and steps.
Unlike traditional bathrooms, wet rooms are easier to maintain and provide solutions to individuals with mobility issues as they eliminate barriers such as high shower trays or narrow shower cubicles. Wet rooms are spacious and contemporary, allowing people to be at ease in their bathrooms.
Why You Need to Keep Your Wet Room Floor Clean
Before we dive into our step-by-step guide on how to clean a wet room floor, let’s talk about why keeping your wet room floor clean is so important. Wet rooms have been designed to be more accessible than traditional bathrooms with separate showers. Wet rooms are open concept and allow water to flow freely across the floor. However, with this comes slip risks from build-ups of soap and other bathing products.
Damp environments like bathrooms are also breeding grounds for bacteria and mould. Not only will regular and effective cleaning remove potential slip risks and other hazards, it will also eliminate mould and other bacteria, leaving you a clean and safe space. You will also maintain the appearance of the room and protect the long-term performance and appearance of the wet room floor.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Clean a Wet Room Floor
Step 1: Clear the area
Start by removing all bath stools, mats, movable fittings, and items that are in the way.
Step 2: Sweep the area
Remove any loose dust, dirt, or other debris in your wet room by sweeping or vacuuming.
Step 3: Apply the Cleaner
We recommend using a microfibre mop to apply your solution to the wet room floor. Make sure to give extra attention to high-traffic areas as well as corners of the room and around the drain.
Step 4: Let the solution sit
Once applied, let the solution sit for several minutes to start to lift the dirt and grime from your floors. Make sure no one walks into your wet room at this time, as it will be a slip hazard.
Step 5: Gently scrub
Using a soft brush, gently scrub to lift the grime and dirt from the wet room floor. Pay attention to areas with textured safety flooring and joints.
Step 6: Rinse thoroughly
Use warm, clean water to rinse the floor, removing the dirty water with your microfibre cloth.
Step 7: Allow to dry
Use a squeegee or dry microfiber cloth to prevent standing water and encourage faster drying. Our top tip is to ensure you have adequate ventilation to allow the floor to dry faster; try opening a window or leaving the fan on.
Tips for success
Here are some of our additional tips on how to clean a wet room floor.
Attention to grout
Grout is often where we notice the largest build-up for grime, dirt, and mould. Use a stiff-bristled brush to gently scrub your grout to remove this layer of grime.

Eco-friendly cleaning
Want to move away from chemical cleaning products? Vinegar and baking soda are ideal, eco-friendly alternatives to traditional cleaning supplies and work just as well.
Change your water regularly
To ensure the most effective and hygienic cleaning, ensure you are changing the water in your mop bucket regularly.
Colour-code your microfibre cloths
Make sure the microfiber cloths designated for your bathroom are a particular colour so they do not get used in other areas of your home.
Stick to a schedule
The best way to fight against damp and mould and keep your wet room looking better for longer is to have an effective cleaning schedule. Keeping on top of your cleaning means you are not allowing a large build-up of grime to accumulate, keeping your wet room a slip-free zone and maintaining the look and integrity of your flooring.
